At Shield Your Body, we believe you deserve accurate, transparent information about EMF and your health. This page explains how we create our content, what sources we rely on, and how we maintain quality.
Who Writes Our Content
All SYB content is written or reviewed by R Blank, founder and CEO of Shield Your Body.
R holds a BA from Columbia University (with honors) and an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management. Before founding SYB in 2012, he spent over 20 years as a software engineer and taught at USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering.
His expertise in EMF science comes from a lifetime of direct exposure to the research. His father, Dr. Martin Blank, spent over 30 years at Columbia University’s Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics studying how electromagnetic fields affect living cells. Together, they co-authored Overpowered: The Dangers of Electromagnetic Radiation and What You Can Do about It in 2014. R is also the author of Empowered: A Practical Guide to Protecting Yourself from EMF.
Our Research Process
Sources We Use
We prioritize verifiable, peer-reviewed scientific evidence:
- Peer-reviewed journals — Studies published in PubMed-indexed journals and other recognized scientific databases
- The BioInitiative Report — An independent review of thousands of studies on the biological effects of electromagnetic fields, co-edited by Dr. Martin Blank
- Government and international health organizations — WHO, NIH, FCC, ICNIRP, and national health agencies
- University research — Studies from institutions including Columbia University, where Dr. Blank conducted his research
Our EMF Research Hub provides access to over 3,100 peer-reviewed studies on the biological effects of electromagnetic radiation, making the underlying science directly available to our readers.
Sources We Avoid
We do not cite:
- Content farms or low-quality aggregator sites
- Unverified social media claims
- Sources that make absolute health claims without supporting evidence
- Marketing materials (including our own) as scientific evidence
How We Handle Uncertainty
EMF science is still developing. When the evidence is strong, we say so clearly. When it is mixed or preliminary, we use language that reflects that:
- “Research suggests…” rather than “proven to…”
- “Studies indicate…” rather than “guaranteed to…”
- “Evidence shows…” rather than “it is certain that…”
We believe acknowledging uncertainty is more honest — and more helpful — than pretending it doesn’t exist.
Our Product Claims
Every SYB shielding product is tested in an independent, third-party laboratory using industry-standard methods. We publish our test results so you can verify our claims.
When we cite shielding performance, we always use the qualifier “up to” because lab-tested results represent peak performance under specific test conditions. Real-world results vary depending on frequency, angle, and environmental factors.
We never claim our products make anything “safe.” We say “safer” — because we reduce exposure, we don’t eliminate it.
Medical Disclaimer
SYB content is for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. We do not claim that EMF protection products cure or prevent any disease.
If you have concerns about EMF exposure and your health, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
How We Update Content
Our blog posts include a “Last Updated” date that reflects when the content was last substantively reviewed and updated — not just when a minor formatting change was made.
When new research is published or our understanding of a topic evolves, we update existing content rather than leaving outdated information in place. Health and science content should reflect the current state of the evidence.
