That’s a direct quote from Dr. Linda Birnbaum. And she’s not just any doctor — she’s a toxicologist and microbiologist, Dr Birnbaum is the former director of the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, as well as the US National Toxicology Program

Why is Dr. Birnbaum so concerned about this behavior?

Reason 1: Regulations do NOT protect us the way you might think.

We all want to believe, that when a product is made available for sale, it’s safe.

But that’s just not true.

And it’s NOT TRUE for cell phones.

There are technically regulations that supposedly control the amount of radiation cell phones can emit. But they are flawed and outdated.

Here are 3 examples of ways these regulations fail to protect you.

The Thermal Effect

Cell phone EMF regulations are based on something called the thermal effect.

This means, as long as a phone does not burn you when you use it, the government considers it to be safe.

Cell phone radiation regulations only protect you against immediate-term burns.

SAM is Big

Cell phone radiation is measured in units called SAR — or specific absorption rate.

They measure SAR with a dummy called the Specific Anthropomorphic Mannequin (or SAM).

Sam is built to simulate a 6’2″ 220-lb male.

97% of the world’s population is smaller than SAM – so 97% of the population will absorb more radiation than SAR tests reveal.

Multiple Sources

SAR testing tests how much radiation comes from your cell phone connection — the wireless connection to the cell tower.

BUT today’s phones have many more wireless connections. There’s WiFi, bluetooth, GPS, NFC (near field communication, used for services like ApplePay and GooglePay), and there’s the electric fields from its electrical components.

SAR testing doesn’t measure all the EMF coming from your phone.

Reason 2: Distance is Your Friend

There are many reasons that cell phones pose a serious health risk. But of course, most of us can’t give up our phones — it’s not a viable option in today’s world.

So instead, you should STOP carrying your phone in your pocket or bra.

Why does this matter so much?

Because the power of EMF radiation gets exponentially weaker with distance. 

Yes, exponentially. EMF weakens exponentially with distance.

So each additional inch – even millimeter – of distance that you put between yourself and the source of the EMF will have a big impact on your exposure. Literally every inch matters when it comes to your EMF exposure.

“Body-worn SAR testing has been carried out at a separation distance of 1.0 cm. To meet RF exposure guidelines during body-worn operation, the device should be positioned at least this distance away from the body.” 

Google

“This device meets RF exposure guidelines when used either in the normal use position against the ear or when positioned at least 1.5 cm away from the body. When a carry case, belt clip or holder is used for body­worn operation, it should not contain metal and should position the product at least 1.5 cm away from your body.”

Reason 4: The Insurance Companies Also Know This

Major underwriters refuse to insure cell phone companies against future health claims.

Lloyd’s of London and its underwriter CFC Underwriting Limited exclude any liability coverage for claims, “directly or indirectly arising out of, resulting from or contributed to by electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic radiation, electromagnetism, radio waves or noise.”

Reason 5: Known Health Effects

EMF affects A LOT of systems.

Breast Cancer

When you carry your phone in your bra, you are (obviously) carrying it directly against your breast. And, as mentioned previously, EMF exposure is linked to multiple types of tumor and cancer formation.

Endocrine Dysfunction
