Swedish researchers analyzed 1,625 meningioma (brain tumor) cases and 3,530 healthy controls to examine whether mobile and cordless phone use increases tumor risk. They found no overall increased risk, but heavy users who talked for more than 1,436 hours showed a 20% increased risk for mobile phones and 70% increased risk for cordless phones. The heaviest users (over 3,358 hours) had double the risk from cordless phones, suggesting prolonged exposure may contribute to these slow-growing brain tumors.

Researchers exposed human embryonic stem cells to terahertz radiation at 2.3 THz and found no DNA damage or structural chromosome problems. However, they discovered subtle changes in gene activity affecting about 1% of genes, particularly those related to mitochondria (the cell's energy powerhouses). The study suggests terahertz radiation may influence cellular function without causing obvious genetic harm.

Researchers studied 116 people living near cell phone towers and 106 controls to see if tower radiation causes DNA damage. They found significantly more genetic damage in people exposed to tower radiation, with nearly three times more DNA breaks in blood cells and 15 times more damaged cells in the mouth. The study also looked at whether certain genetic variations affect susceptibility to this damage, but found no connection.

Researchers studied 63 people living within 300 meters of a cell phone tower and compared their DNA damage to 28 people living farther away. They found significantly more genetic damage (DNA breaks and mutations) in the blood cells of those living near the tower, where radiation levels exceeded safety limits. Women showed more DNA damage than men, and the amount of damage correlated with how close people lived to the tower and how much they used their phones.

Researchers tested whether targeted magnetic stimulation of the brain's prefrontal cortex could help cocaine addicts reduce their drug use. They found that patients receiving transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) had significantly more drug-free urine tests and lower cocaine cravings compared to those receiving standard treatment. This pilot study suggests that precisely applied magnetic fields might offer a new therapeutic approach for addiction treatment.

Researchers exposed cells containing human opioid receptors to 5 Hz electromagnetic fields and found they reduced cellular activity (cAMP levels) 23% more effectively than morphine. The effect was frequency-specific, as 13 Hz EMF produced no significant changes. This suggests certain EMF frequencies might influence pain pathways in ways similar to opioid drugs, potentially offering therapeutic benefits without drug side effects.

Dutch researchers followed over 120,000 people for 17 years to see if workplace exposures increased dementia death risk. They found that men exposed to metals, chlorinated solvents, and extremely low frequency magnetic fields (ELF-MF) at work had higher rates of non-vascular dementia mortality. The strongest link was with metals exposure, showing a 35% increased risk.

Dutch researchers followed over 120,000 people for 17 years to study whether workplace exposures increase Parkinson's disease deaths. They found that men with high occupational exposure to extremely low frequency magnetic fields (ELF-MF) had a 54% higher risk of dying from Parkinson's disease. This matters because ELF-MF exposure comes from power lines, electrical equipment, and many common workplace environments.

Researchers exposed rats to microwave radiation for 4 hours daily and found it caused oxidative stress and DNA damage in testicular tissue. However, when rats were also given melatonin (a natural hormone), it prevented much of this damage by reducing harmful chemical reactions and protecting genetic material. This suggests melatonin may offer some protection against microwave radiation's harmful effects on reproductive organs.

Researchers exposed 18 volunteers to GSM mobile phone signals for 30 minutes and measured oxidative stress markers in their blood and breath. They found that phone exposure changed how these biological markers were organized in the body, suggesting the radiation interacts with cellular processes. While the study doesn't prove harm or safety, it provides evidence that mobile phone signals do affect biological systems at the cellular level.

Researchers exposed rats to 900 MHz mobile phone radiation for 4 hours daily over 18 days and found significant liver damage. The radiation caused increased oxidative stress (cellular damage from harmful molecules), liver cell death, and visible tissue damage including cell swelling and death. This suggests that prolonged exposure to mobile phone frequencies may harm liver function through cellular stress pathways.

Researchers exposed blood cells from 13 healthy volunteers to 900 MHz radiation (the frequency used by cell phones) for 2 hours and measured cellular damage. They found that exposure significantly increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) - harmful molecules that damage cells - in monocytes, a type of immune cell. This suggests that cell phone radiation can trigger oxidative stress in immune system cells.

Swiss researchers followed 439 adolescents for one year to see if cell phone radiation affects memory. They found that teens with higher exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields from mobile phones showed measurably worse performance on figural memory tests (the ability to remember visual patterns and shapes). The effect was stronger when researchers calculated actual radiation dose to the brain rather than just looking at call time.

Researchers exposed rats to mobile phone electromagnetic waves for 30 days and examined their auditory systems. The exposed rats showed significant neuronal damage in the brain regions that process hearing, including cell death and tissue swelling. While hearing function tests appeared normal, the microscopic damage suggests that chronic EMF exposure may harm the auditory processing centers in the brain.

Researchers exposed sperm samples from 97 healthy men to cell phone radiation (1950 MHz frequency) for 3 hours at levels similar to what phones emit during calls. The radiation significantly reduced sperm movement and survival rates while increasing cell death and structural defects in sperm heads. This suggests that cell phone radiation can directly damage sperm quality, which could impact male fertility.

German researchers exposed mice to radiofrequency radiation at levels similar to cell phones and found significantly higher numbers of lung, liver, and lymph node tumors compared to unexposed animals. The tumor-promoting effects occurred at very low exposure levels - well below current safety limits for mobile phone users. This replication study confirms earlier findings that RF radiation may accelerate tumor growth even when it doesn't directly cause cancer.

Researchers measured radio frequency electric field levels from seven transmitters aboard a 40-metre, three-level marine ship at 12 different locations. A total of 528 electric field measurements were collected across three deck levels, with the lowest readings on the upper deck and the highest on the bridge roof. The ICNIRP and ARPANSA general-public limits were exceeded on the bridge roof, but occupational limits were respected everywhere.

Researchers exposed longhorn beetles to 50 Hz magnetic fields (the same frequency as power lines) and measured how their brain neurons responded. They found that square wave magnetic fields caused measurable changes in neural activity after 10-15 minutes of exposure, while sine wave fields did not. This demonstrates that even insects show biological responses to power-frequency magnetic fields, and that the waveform shape matters for biological effects.

Researchers scanned people's brains after one-hour exposure to 60 Hz magnetic fields from power lines. Brain scans showed altered activation patterns during tasks, even though performance stayed normal. This suggests magnetic field exposure can change how the brain functions, with effects lasting after exposure ends.

Researchers exposed brain stem cells (neural progenitor cells) from stroke-damaged brains to 50 Hz magnetic fields at 0.4 mT for 7 days. The magnetic field exposure significantly increased both cell multiplication and the development of these stem cells into neurons. This suggests that extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields might help brain recovery after stroke by promoting the growth of new brain cells.

Researchers exposed human osteosarcoma MG-63 cells to a 50 Hz, 1 mT extremely low frequency electromagnetic field (ELF-EMF) for 1, 2 and 3 hours in vitro. ELF-EMF decreased the viability of MG-63 cells, inhibited cell growth, induced cell apoptosis and increased the level of ROS significantly. The apoptosis rate declined significantly after treatment with ROS inhibitor NAC or p38MAPK inhibitor SB203580. The researchers concluded that increased ROS and p38MAPK activation may be involved in the mechanism.

Researchers investigated whether third generation mobile phone radiation peaks produce event-related potentials in the brain. Thirty-one healthy females took part in a single-blind, cross-over design where a 15 minute mobile phone exposure was compared to two 15 minute sham phone conditions. When the phone was placed at the ear, an enlarged cortical reactivity was found in the frontal and central cortical regions, but not when it was placed at the heart.

Researchers investigated whether placement of a 3G dialing mobile phone causes direct changes in EEG activity compared to placement of a sham phone. Thirty-one healthy females each participated on two days, with the phone placed at the ear on one day and the chest on the other. Significant radiation effects were found for the alpha, slow beta, fast beta, and gamma bands, with ear placement showing significant results and chest placement not.
